This is an image of a 45 Auto Hand Gun. I have been working on it part time for the past week now, but do to time constraints I will have to put it to rest. It was modeled and rendered in 3D Studio Max 5. Let me know what you think!

Yeah, it looks good... accurate detail modelling from what I can see. I would definitely render a different view of it, with no DOF in a different environment if you want more accurate feedback. One thing I notice is that the plastic/rubber grips look a little too rounded at the edges, but I can't be sure.

i do like the model and the material of the case but i could not be sure about the material of the gun. it looks like metal, it looks like plastic but i can not be sure which one :hmm:
i like the scene but i don't like guns :)

Very nice modelling. Maybe a bit of a blue and reflection on a falloff map would help get that blued metalic look...
Just my 2 cents but very cool anyway...

Everything looks good to me but the trigger guard. It's very thin at the bottom, and the whole thing looks oddly shaped IMO. I can't tell for sure though, because I haven't seen the real version. What make/model is it?
ok, Final gathering, soft shadows and DOF do not make for a "photo real" image. Im sorry but im tired of everyone calling their images "photo real" because they used DOF and FG.
Your model is nice but their is quite a bit of detail missing before it even starts to approach photo-realism.
For example, the metal of the weapon, too perfect. Not a single smudge, imperfection, nick, scratch, polish mark, fingerprint, etc. It has almost no noise or even a noticable relfection.
I see a few hard edges. Perfect hard edges do no exist in real life. Bevel them a bit, just a bit, to get that little specular line.
Another example, your atmosphere/environment. The light is perfectly white, uni-directional and seems to be coming from straight up and nothing but darkness all around. Unless you are in a photo studio and have fixed this type of lighting, it is highly unlikly this lighting will occur naturally or accidently.
There is no dust/particles in the air usually present in macro photography. Although it is possible that the air is "clean" or that it wasnt picked up by the camera, It is a nice touch to add in order to trick the eye.
Many many details to add. Photo realism isnt about perfection, its 80% of ADDING imperfections.

You really need to get a good reference pic, or the real thing. If you already have one, perhaps do a detailed study of it. You're missing quite a bit of detail.
Right off hand, the grip is too smooth. You're missing the main safety device along the back of the grip. Also, you need markings. All manufacturers etch their names and weapon details on the slide and the main body. The clip release button is textured... etc.
Great start, though. The overall shape of the weapon is pretty darn close!

I agree....there is much more work that needs to be done to this pic, but unfortunately I don't have the time right now. I want to thank every one for their comments; all the information you have supplied is very helpful. Thanks once again.
