Hi guys,

finally I managed to load two animation files from 2004 on my webspace. These two clips are not too fancy but I wanted to show some work of mine. ;) I hope that I will find the time to realise some animation projects in the next months. At the moment I am working on other things at my university which mainly have to do with electronics and writing screenplays.
Hopefully next semester there will be some projects about animation as well. Wish me luck.

Okay, here they are.

Bike (http://www.pixelblast.de/images/gallery/animations/bike.mov) (Quicktime, 320x240, 8,54 MB, no sound)

http://www.pixelblast.de/images/gallery/animations/bike.jpg (http://www.pixelblast.de/images/gallery/animations/bike.mov)

Treadmill (http://www.pixelblast.de/images/gallery/animations/treadmill.mov) (Quicktime, 320x240, 7,42 MB, no sound)

http://www.pixelblast.de/images/gallery/animations/treadmill.jpg (http://www.pixelblast.de/images/gallery/animations/treadmill.mov)

These two scenes are test animations from my application work (a short film of about 5 minutes length) I have done for Bauhaus-University Weimar. I hope you like it. Please, tell me what you think even if this work is finished. Maybe some day I reuse those animations. Who knows? ;)

Bye, Nico

the bike one:

the penguin shouldn't start sweating suddenly after not panting and seemingly having a hard time to bike...slowly build up to that point...maybe have him slow down every so slightly, make him start to slump, and make him start to heavily breathe. Once you get the message across that he's tired, start the sweatin'

treadmill:

make his toes drag as his foot goes up. right now it seems like he has a mechanical foot with non-working toes...

other than that iz all good, baby!

that's it

jamagica,

thanks for your comment. I see what you mean and I am working on that, not in line with the two animations presented here but I will try to do it better on future work. :)

By the way is that bird really looking like a penguin? :D

Cheers, Nico

Hey Noryx,

I feel your blinks are a little too random. I think that they could have more meaning, instead of making him blink to make it look like he is alive every so often.
I think for the one on the treadmill, he is walking at a very relaxed rate, and not working too hard, so he wouldn't blink that much.

I like the part when he starts blinking when he starts sweating on the bike, but the build up before that feels like the blinks are every second or so, and the blinks are evenly spaced out... so it makes him more mechanical.

When a character is intense, he doesn't blink a lot as well. But when he is nervous/shy/guilty he will blink a lot. As well, a change of thought/emotion is a good time for a character to blink.

And no, he doesn't look like a penguin really. He looks like a normal black bird. :) Oh, and when will you have the bird lifting weights?

Hi Paul,

yeah, you are absolutely right. There is too much blinking in those scenes. I never thought about this but thanks to your hint I know what to think of next time.
This has been my second bigger character animation, you know? In total I have done maybe four. :) So I am still not very experienced in doing such things but your suggestion to do the classic weight lifting seems to be a fantastic idea to practise all those aspects of characters in motion. :D I hope that I will have a chance shortly to realise that in line with my studies here in Weimar.

Thanks again and bye, Nico
