I just start with a sketch ... any comments and crits before proceed to colouring would be very appreciated :)

well, from a practical standpoint: how is he s'posed to carry on? no legs, dragons typically don't have a prehensile tail, etc.

More animal variety would be nice, too.

Well he's got wings! With all the vastly different depictions of a fantasy creature, I see how they can "typically" have anything - I think it's a nice creature design. What's going to happen with the background?
