View Full Version : Getting stuck in Modeling!!!
Darkone 11-20-2005, 02:03 PM Hi
I am using Lightwave, and I have a problem with modeling, when i do a Tutorial its going not bad, but when i try to model something on my own without a Tutorial i just get stuck , i dont know what to do.
I am thinking of buying the Mclaren DVD car tutorail from Simplylightwave.com, but i dont know if it will help me like i hope and think it will.
Can anyone help me with an advice on what to do?
Thanks

We have all been there! ;)
Don't worry, you'll just pick it up with time. Just don't stop trying and most of all I would, very humbly, model a number of very simple objects at first. :)

Thanks for the tip, what simple items would you suggest to start with?

Hi Darkone!
well, it really depends on how much experience you have in modeling.
I started years ago with very humble common objects like a fork, a chair or with a little very simple cartoony character...
Then I would go on with an apple, a lamp, a hand....
This are just examples, you pick objects that you like. At the Softimage course they taught us box modeling with an "octopus" tutorial. It was good fun to extrude the tentacles so that they would all go in different directions like the animal was floating in the water ;)
All this is not very exciting, but you will pick up the basics and then you'll be ready for a car or a complex character.
By the way, are you box modeling or using nurbs etc?
And what software is it that you are using?
Let me know the answers to these questions and also how much experience you have and I'll try and help you more.:)

hi!
Well if you are using lightwave it's good news because its modeling tools are very well known for being very good. I haven't used it much but I'm sure of its reputation for modeling.
If your knowledge is basic, don't worry about any specific technique. Start with box modeling and model something very simple, like a bowl of fruit or something like that. A vase, a lamp or a toothbrush... you know what I mean...
Yes, I can draw, although I wouldn't say that is one of my main skills.
:)
