I am in the process of pricing and upgrading my hardware. I am looking at a dual opteron 280 system using Thunder K8WE (S2895) (http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8we_spec.html) MOBO. Anyway the reason for his thread is related to the display/monitor and video card.

Currently I am using a 21"HP and 17" Sony CRT monitor hooked on to my aged grandfather GeForce 4600Ti card.

I will be getting a new 24" LCD display (undecided which make/model) with the new machine.

So my questions are-

1) Will my new Graphic card GeForce 7800 GTX 512Mb be able to handle a 21"CRT monitor (1600x1200 @ 85Hz) and a 24" LCD display (1920 x 1200+) without any problems ????????????????

2) I would like to hook up the 17" CRT Sony monitor to the new machine as well because it's excellent for colour accuracy. What will I need to hook it up? So basically have a 24" LCD display + 21" HP CRT + 17" Sony CRT on the new machine.

3) What is a descent 24" LCD display for 3d work? I did a search here and found lot of threads but I am still not able to conclude which 24" LCD display to get. It seems like Samsung, Dell and Apple are the popular choice. I personally preffer CRTs but might go with a LCD this time to protect my eyes (they are in perfect condition so far).

The preliminary 3 that I am looking at-

a) Apple cinema display $$$$
b) Samsung 243T, 24'' (apparently excellent image quality but lot of ghosting)
c) Dell Ultrasharp 24"

Any input would be greately appreciated. Thanks

1) The 7800 will handle both screens with no problem

2) Grab any nvidia pci (or pcie if you have that board) and just slap it in.

3) dell 24", there is only 1 model.

Thanks imashination.
Yes you are right about the Dell. On the Dell site is showed three 24" LCD's when I looked for 24" LCD monitors. I looked again and they are all exactly same models :argh:. So you are right... I will edit my original post.

I have been surfing the net for last few hours trying to come to some bloody conclusion... reading so many crap meaningless reviews.

Hmmm CRT's are so much cheaper and have no screen quality risk factors associated with it...like dead pixels, bad colour etc etc.
This is proving to be a hard decision to make! Are two 21" CRT tubes pointing at me really going to fry my brain and eyes? :D

Why not get 2 - 7800gtx 256mb cards, then run each display off each one.

I am not made of money to buy two 7800gtx cards :) Plus one 7800GTX 512 Mb card will be enough to power two 21" plus size displays properly as imashination confirmed.
If I do decide to hook up the 17" CRT as well then to power that I can use a second but cheap Nvidia card.

The only thing I have to decide now is which 24"LCD to buy that will compliment my 21" fading CRT monitor.
