This is my way of introducing myself as well, I was invited here by Rebecca Kimmel from ca.org to join the 15 sketcathon so anyways, hopefully its okay I post a bunch of sketches

I have done using the photoreferences provided here : http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=298699

I was browsing through the photos in the above thread and picked random references to the following sketches as inspired, I used 10 to 15 minutes on each sketch

Egets,

Welcome aboard, it's great to see you here! :)

One thing that will be really useful is if you copy and paste the URL of your image into the square yellow sun / mountain icon in the EDIT POST text editor ~ that way, we can see your images without clicking on a link. :)

Keep up the good work!

Cheers, :)

Wow wow wow! Thank you very much for the tutorials, Rebeccak and Helens! I've never try Painter before (now looking forward to try it), and I most definately did not know that there are so many way to blend colour in photoshop!

I've had a blast doing today's 15 mins sketch!

http://www.bluebuster.net/picture/06-5-19.jpg

It's still not complete (with the right arm and legs) and I'm not satisfied so I draw more for another 5 minutes - together 20 minutes.

http://www.bluebuster.net/picture/06-5-19_2.jpg

Can't wait to do tomorrow's sketch!

Thanks for posting that great tut!

MasterPete,

No problem! Your sketch has drastically improved, can't wait to see more!

This is today's 15 min.
http://www.bluebuster.net/picture/06-5-20.jpg

Still couldn't get it finish in time.. so here goes another 10 minutes.

http://www.bluebuster.net/picture/06-5-20_2.jpg

For the general shading it'd be OK but when I get into fine details, like the face, I couldn't get it right. How do they get it so detailed in some of the example in tutorials? (ie Jealousy...) The detail are very defined. Do they use different set of brush or something?

Helens

Thank you so much, guys! Glad I could be of any help at all. :3
MasterPete, Painter is really amazing and powerful, if a bit confusing at first. If you ever need any help at all, this forum and other are full of tutorials, and of course, I'd be more than happy to impart whatever little knowledge I have. :D
On to the sketches! HUGE improvement here, both of them have great volume and contrast! Keep up the awesome work. :D
And usually, the reason they get so much detail in is because they work at HUGE resolutions, usually at least 4 times the display size or so.

Kalai82: Nice sketches! You captured the motion very well. :D And don't worry about it, faces are generally the hardest thing to capture when drawing from reference, especially in a short time.

Mu: Ooo, nice! Very interesting shading style. :D

Egets: Beautiful! I LOVE your fluid lines. Welcome, by the way!

Thanks for your comments everyone! Sorry it's been a bit since I've posted. I got super busy!

Helens - I love your tutorial! Thanks for posting that. It really helps a lot to see how everyone else works.

MasterPete - Lovely work! I really like how you work with value. You're able to get a lot accomplished in the 15 minute time limit. You even distinguish muscles! Your sketching style has a lot of movement to it as well.

RebeccaK - Thanks for the warm welcome! This is a really fun atmosphere. Thanks so much for your comments and crits. You do so much work in this forum...it's amazing! =)

Mu - Very awesome style! I really like the way you work with line.

Kalai88 - Hiya! I adore your cow! And you do a great job getting the proportion of your figures down.

Here's mine for today. 15 minutes - Photoshop

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

Aurella - I think you got the anatomy down really well!

zhuzhu - OH MY GOD. 15 minutes sketch!?!? I'm SO getting Painter.

Helens - So, HUGE resolution, right? I'll definately try that.

With that in mindl, 15 minutes for today.

http://www.bluebuster.net/picture/06-5-22.jpg

So incomplete. I sit through another 30 minutes before I feel satisfied.

http://www.bluebuster.net/picture/06-5-22_2.jpg

Huge resolution - check! Still couldn't get the face right. Hmmmmm... I mean, most of the muscle and everything, you just have to blend colours together and it looks smooth. With fine details like eyes and mouth, you can't do that. Is there a way to paint eyes and mouth realistically? (Excuse my grammar...)

MasterPete

Another hours later...

I think I'll stop doing colour stuff now... I really need to get my anatomy right first. And, my anatomy is so not right.

15 mins.

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/5839/dailysketch0115mins3ip.jpg

I lost a few minutes getting the glowing outline while I should have started with the fabrics instead. Feels a bit unfinished.. I think I should focus more in a single detail instead of trying to get the whole reference down.

Great work everyone, I know now that it is tough to quickly sketch in 15 mins.
Keep up the good work.

Good work all!

Dim - powerful image!

penniington - very nice work

Anthreil - nice clean work!

Gaudy - LOL - I know - we all need to work harder! You have a good grasp of the "weight" of the figure - a very important element of drawing - keep up the good work!

Another 15min, not to found of this one, but that's why I'm digging these exercises, you really get to see where your faults lie, and mine unfortunately is smudging, bleh dang wacom habit I have to break :)

Another 15 mins, this time I refrain from using the "smudge" and to tell you the truth I like the result better! Building up the image with a low opacity brush as opposed to plopping down a color then smudging it to hell works much nicer. See I'm learning ;)

Never thought I’d get the guts to do this, but I have to admit once you force yourself to do it you really improve, I’ve always been painfully slow and my process in the beginning was bad, so hopefully this will help me improve.

Some of your sketching are incredible, I’m really jealous now. Mine doesn’t even have color =S

did another one, wish i did the other diver as well, would have looked better i think. one problem i'm noticing and i wish i wasn't, is i tend to take things to litterally, like, i have trouble simplifying or going crazy with my shapes =/ i noticed you were able to show a form and motion with a very simple brush strokes but it somehow worked really well >< . i think i need to work on that.

Sorry I haven't been following the thread all the way thru and it's kind of hard to read through all 123 pages in one sitting.

I5 Minute Sketchathon - Thread 1: Reference (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=298699)

And then to post their drawings done from that reference to the thread you are currently reading. I know it's confusing, but it just made sense to collect all of the Reference together in one place. :)

I don't concentrate much on details - don't have time haha - but try to get basic shapes and proportions right. Therefore brush-size is quite big with 1% of the image size.

15 minutes goes fast, I will give it a shot, hey is there a link to the irc chat you go to, I run MIRC but I have no clue how to get placed, I go to this site that has links and it opens my thing up automatically.

Alright I did a 15 minute sketch. I sketch slopy, I find it hard to sketch with a graphire 4x6, also I like to turn my paper a lot when I sketch. Is there easy short cuts in Painter to rotate canvas?

15 minutes goes by so fast, I am such a perfectionist I spent to much time trying to get everything in the proper place, lots of errors still, but the best I could do in 15 minutes. I cannot wait to get an intuos 6x8 or larger.

I would love to get a citiq, man that would be perfect. Sorry for blabbing here it is

I decided to not use the grid technique because 15 minutes is not enough time. So I did the traditional basic shapes. The only problem is, I find it hard to match everything exact this way. So there are tons of errors. But I think I captured the mood and shape of the statue.

This is from Rebeccak's photos, National Geographic museum.

The upside was, I get to spend less time thinking technical and just draw.

I would like to see some others sketch this statue, if you do not mind. I like seeing how others capture the mood and such.

I did a loose shapes sketch, then sketched over that, 16 minutes, oops went over one minute.

Decided to do another 15 minute quicky. I did not use my previous sketch, you can tell if you look at them, I got the placing better in this one. I did not sketch anything first, just started dropping big blobs of paint on the digital canvas. Using a big brush, then using a smaller brush for some details. Not sure what I enjoy more, paint sketching or drawing.

maybe, but i think you have the gesture as a whole down a lot better than i do. i think i'm going to tackle it again, maybe just in black and white this time. still getting used to photoshop as a sketching tool. it's not quite the same as grabbing a piece of charcoal and rubbing it across a page.

I tried it again, I'm much happier with the body this time but now I have the head too small. I didn't notice it until the end, 15 minutes goes by so fast.

You can get a more charcol feel by using a texture brush, and set it to 100% hard, don't use the soft brushes. Even using a hard squar or round brush is cool with opacity set to pen pressure under brush controls. You can also set size to pen pressure.

However, the best program for chalk, water colors, oil, etc is Painter IX. I cannot believe how much the oils feel like oils, it is amazing.

I thought this thread would have been totally hoppin'

Here is another 15 minute one. I found a very cool small alarm program. After you install, right click on the exe and choose send to where every you want a shortcut. Once the program is open right click on the little blue program and go to control panel, and you can set the time to 15 minutes or whatever. It makes a noise when one minute is left then ticks down to zero. then you hear an explosion when time is up.

go to this link (http://www.gonebowlin.com/freeware.html)and then download the AleJenJesTimer.zip (http://www.gonebowlin.com/download/AleJenJesTimer.zip) (89k)

Photoshop CS, hard pen with brush settings, pen pressure for size opacity and I clicked noise on.

I decided to do something a little different. I recorded my self sketching in photoshop and then sped up the video to be less than 4 minutes in length. I also put my little timer in the video, so you can see the 15 minute count down in super speed.

If anyone else has the ability to make such a video that would be cool.

Right click and save as (www.manfacedgods.com/videos/sketch2.rm)

It is a small video size it will download fast. 3.58mb

yeah I do have the ability but quick time makes larger file sizes from my experience. But next time I can do that, I cannot do it now, because I deleted the main file, and vegas will not let me import the RM file to change it.

I was also thinking about doing one with pencil and using my camcorder to record the sketching the speed it up to reduce 15 minutes to 3 minutes

Hi everybody,

I love the work that is being posted. I would like to show my own work here but I guess I'm still trying to figure out how to post my work on the threads. If anyone could help please do.

I guess I should explain myself. my problem basically has to do with browsing for a file. When I make an attempt there is no dialogue box or anything that lets me search for my file.

Sorry for going off subject.

3 minutes over and still butchered the arms. Probably going to work on just linework after this.

heartbeat: Thank you. :) Those are just AMAZING. What are you using for the 'shading'?
NR43: Good work, keep it up!
Stuker: Love the cleanliness of your sketches. Looking forward to more!
Shyam: Thanks, you've always been an inspiration for me to continue sketching. :)
