View Full Version : Batch Rendering completes in a second but nothing has happened?!?

Hello,

I have a problem with my batch rendering at present. I built a three-dimensional car which has been modelled and textured in Maya and is rendered using mental ray. I've created a camera and am animating the camera around the car. When I create a single render in my render view, the image appears fine. However, when I try to use the batch renderer (even just for a single frame) I can't get it to work at all. What happens is that it starts rendering, then within a couple of seconds it tells me in my console that the batch rendering is complete. This obviously is incorrect as I've estimated it should take about three minutes per frame to render. I then check out the folder where the files should be and there is nothing there.

In my render progress report I can't see any reference to any errors, it just says that the whole thing has been completed.

So I decided to go back through the various files that I have created along the way to modelling the car. The first few car drafts that I created will render fine, but I've obviously done something along the way to cause this problem later on.

I'm using Maya 6.5, on Mac OS10.3.9.

Any advice would be greatly received as I've already spend two evenings trying to figure this out.

Deleting or renaming Maya preferences could solve the problem

Rename
~/Library/Preferences/Alias/maya/n.n/prefs
to
~/Library/Preferences/Alias/maya/n.n/prefs_old

and try again.

Does your camera have the "renderable" flag checked?

I think so. I selected my camera in the hypershade and then opened up the attributes in the attributes editor. Under output settings the checkbox for "renderable" is checked. I presume that is where it has to be checked - correct?

~/Library/Preferences/Alias/maya/n.n/prefs
to
~/Library/Preferences/Alias/maya/n.n/prefs_old

and try again.

Topolino, I've tried renewing the preferences as you suggested but unfortunately it hasn't fixed the problem for me. I actually went and found the original tutorial files that I'd used to help me figure out how to create the car last night. I tried to batch render them, they batch rendered without any problems, so it's obviously something I've done along the way which is creating this problem in this particular case. I suspect I must have turned something off or on somewhere that shouldn't be but I haven't got a clue what that can be. It's starting to drive me a little bit nuts now! Grrrrrr.....

May be a silly question, but have you made sure you are rendering multi-files and not just one? Should be name.ext.#

I've tried both multi-files and single file - neither of them work. :(
