Hello! I was wondering why, when I extrude diagonally like in this example it does the following :

What I want is for the face to not bend down like this and ruin the polygon.
Also I created this object using the revolve tool.

It came out a bit dirty and I had to convert it to polygon and soften it but believe it or not this is what it looks like after I did that. Although it shows up nicer when rendered it doesn't seem as clean as I wish it could be and has many dark shadowy parts that I assume are errors.
It seems polygons become sorta deformed if extruded to many times. Are there any ways to get a better effects for softening it?
Thanks for your time and reading.
