View Full Version : CA beginner seeks advice

Seeking the advice of the experienced CA operators (I'm an experienced C4D operator in general, but a newby in CA)...

I need to build a 'humanoid character' - ie two legs, two arms, one head ;) - wearing a lab coat. You'll see his lower legs and feet, hands and neck / head.
Initially I'll be using him to render stills in various poses, but the longer term aim is to have him fully animated.

Could you folks help me with a few newby questions:

* Would it be best to model him as a single mesh - with the coat forming his 'body', or would a better approach be to have separate coat (body), head, leg, arm objects etc? He'll never be seen without his coat.

* What would be my best approach to rigging as a CA beginner? Ideally I'd like to set up the model so that he is fully rigged and animatable from the start. How long is it likely to take me to get up and running with enough basic CA know-how to get this done? If it's too much to take on I guess I could just use basic FK for the initial posing and re-work the rigging with a more advanced IK rig later.

I have MOCCA (never used it until today :o ) and would by Cactus Dan's tools etc if they would be helpful.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks,

if your just starting out in ca and mocca you need to do this tut by Slouchcorps

https://www.slouchcorp.com/mocca/m2101.htm

after your done with that, then ask more questions. this tut will answer alot about ca and c4d.

if you plan on getting CD IK Tools i have a tut almost done that will get posted.

what version of mocca and c4d do you have?

Version 9.0 XL. I think that's MOCCA v2 ?

Thanks for the tutorial link. Looks good. I'll work through that and see how I get on.

If it is R9.0 you are running, the free R9.1 update will be a good advise.
Thou I'm not a CA guy in any respect many things in general are better in 9.1

Cheers

Yours had an s... https:// instead of http:// -- it was trying to go to the secure version of the page, which if non exists, will look a whole lot like the website is gone. :)
