Hi,
I have been modeling for quite some time but when it comes to dynamics I am very new. I have barely used them at all.

I have been working on something lately and I really need some help.

I am trying to make some chains for a hanging slab of wood -Posted picture- I need it to sway in the breeze with as much a realistic feel as possible. I tried rigid bodies but the whole thing colapses when I add gravity as shown......:banghead:

I have searched the forums for chains but all the explanations are very short and to the point for someone that has just started with dynamics.

If anyone knows any step by step tutorials on this subject please let me know I would really apreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Each object has to be an active/passive rigid body in order to relate to fields. If you are still having problems, 'Apply Force At' vertices or CVs found in the channel editor under the appropriate rigid body. Make sure 'Stand In' is none also.

I got it working "ok" to a degree using active and passive rigid body dynamics. I am getting a small problem with the chains though, they bend only in 2 places instead of bending like a chain should. It isnt very important scince is something hanging there anyhow but juse wondering if there is a way of adding more interception points.

Another thing I am really concerned about is, is there any way to do this so it will not take years to render once textured??

Thanks

Theres always a trade off between accurate dynamic simulations and rendering time. usually you have to increase your CV count or resolution on those objects involved. However you can cache your simulations and bake them before you render your animation to cut down on render times. Then I assume you can texture your objects then render the animation whcih shouldn't take so long. Use F1 for info on caching and baking, have fun.
