Hey,
I really want some honest, harsh critiques on this new reel, especially from those employed in the field. Please tell me everything wrong with my animation reel and what I can do to make it better. Thank you!

Johnathan.

If you still have the files then I'd rerender a few with better lighting so they're easier to look at, the running guy is more like it. Also it seems like some of them have generic materials. There's alot of burned out highlights on the diving board guy so he's hard to look at. I personally like to turn down specularity on most surfaces. On the golfing I think more time preparing to hit the ball, maybe look out to where he's going to hit it or do some slow practice swings to be sure he's ready. The celebration is unique, those fast feet bother me. What if when his feet are moving alot then his hands don't move so much, then my eyes won't go all over the place trying to figure out what to look at. Your compositions are a little boring, there's alot of things in the center of the screen. The camera angle on the devil seems off so he's a little harder to read. He seems to be turning away from the blue guy a little, so why not have to camera over there so when he turns away from the blue guy he faces the camera.

I hope some of this can help and is what you're looking for, good luck. I'm not too heavy into animation so I gave you comments that would make the reel more pleasent to look at so employers will look at the animation and not be distracted/annoyed with the look of the reel.

One thing I noticed was that when the diver is flipping, he's rotating around his waist/butt. That's not the true rotational axis. When you flip, you rotate closer to a spot that's between your knees/thighs and chest (when you're in the tuck position).

Hope this helps.
