View Full Version : One or Two GFXcards?
Jimbo65 11-18-2005, 03:46 AM So seriously... if money was not an issue...
would you run two over one NVIDIA FX4500 card?
one versus two what do you gain?
I have two 23inch flat panels 1900X1200 resolution...
we are adding a flatscreen client monitor but that could run of a Decklink... and there is the option to add a pro ntsc monitor...
I was just wondering what I would get using two cards versus one... if each card was dedicated per monitor would I get twice the viewing speed of say both monitors on one card?
?

and how would SLI figure into this system?
is anyone using NVIDIA SLI for 3D/motion gfx apps? or are they better running parallel?
I am definitely looking at dual dual core processors and 4gb of ram on 32bit windows.
and possibly decklinkHD PCI-X for IO...
Currently, SLI is not supported in the big 3D apps. This is bound to change I'm sure, but right now it wont help. This leaves running the cards side by side driving thier own displays (which is better, since SLI doesnt support multi monitors anyway :P)

Still not sure about win64.... I would love to go that route, but I am a little concerned about software problems with the new OS... however the improvements might be worth the trouble...
I have been running Windows X64 for 5 or 6 months now. I can tell you that I have not come across any software incompatabilities. Lightwave64 works great. Granted plugins are still 32bit, so I have also installed a 32bit version of Lightwave, but LW64 is able to handle large data sets and scenes. It works quite nicely. My video games all work just fine, drivers were not a problem.. The OS as a whole feels much more stable as well.
It's a nice OS.

Yeah, I think I might have to change that thinking...
Here are my main wares... (And I have a laptop that will run all of this and pretty nicely too, and that is WIN32 as a backup...)
Max8
Combustion4
Adobe AE, PremierePro
Illustrator
Photoshop
the basics...
my biggest concern is Decklink... this system has a decklink HD Pro PCI-X card...? (that they say is currently not supported... now I know that is not difinitive... lots of unsupported stuff works just fine.
