I have a recurring problem when scaling my models.
When I try to scale them and I'm using the measure utility and the uniform scale tool, The numbers always jump past the number I need.
How can I uniform scale something to an exact size?
I have went thru the user manual and have not found an answer to that specific question.
I'm missing my scale mark by .002m

Have you tried pressing F12 and typing in your values? Hope that helps.

yes, I know about the transform type-in, you can also just right-click the scale tool.
The problem with that type-in is that if I enter the value I need for scale, say .714 in Y coordinate, it wildly distorts the object.
In all honesty, I have no clue how this type-in could ever be used.

OK, so lets say you want an object that is 80cm wide to be 32.2cm wide. Divide 32.2 by 80 and times it by 100...and you have the percentage to type-in (40.25%). Type it into all axes, and you'll have a uniform scale.

that makes sense, but as soon as you select the next box for the next axis, it applys the previous distorting the object.

That's true, but type it into each axis and the last one will make it uniform.

Also, try typing the value into one of the three boxes below the timeline. With uniform scale on this will save you typing it 3 times.

I try to select the y coordinate in the transfor type-in near the staus bar and it will not let me select any axis but X while the uniform tool is selected.

I thought you were trying to do a uniform scale. If you need to adjust only one axis that's a non-uniform scale. I'm confused as to what you want.

I am trying to do a uniform scale. I want to scale my entire object down to whatever it takes to make its y axis .714m It is now .716. the stupid numbers keep jumping past.
Why on earth is a scale tool not precise or adjustable for precision?

Well I got it scaled right and here is what I did...
Your method yeilded no results that made any sense. Obviously I was doing it wrong.
I, using your method, divided .714 (what I need) by .716 (what I have) giving a result of 99.7
When I enter 99.7 into the transform field near the bottom of the screen by the status bar, (can only enter in the x field, the other two are unavailable) I get a horribly distorted model. I get an equally disturbing result when entering that number into the right click menu of the uniform scale tool.
What I did that worked for me was with my object at .716 and needing it to be .714, I right clicked the uniform scale tool and clicked the down arrow on the offset world side (100% was already entered there) of the type in. This reduced the model from .716 to .715. So I did it again to get the desired result.
I don't know that this is the correct method however and am not even sure if its a uniform scale.
I do know that I have all my objects selected, I know that it has to be .714 (objects known length) in the y coordinate and that I have the uniform scale tool selected and am in its right click menu.
It really seems to me that you should just be able to select your object, select the scale tool and scale to any desired number, not a random incremental number up or down, but a precise increase or decrease in scale.
This instead of having to use one tool to get close, then another method to get precise.

I'm glad you got it to work. It is quite hard to help people through this limited medium of text. Anyways goodluck with future problems, they will always be there, just easier to fix.

I appreciate your timely responses, you at the very least got me dinking around in the right area which is what ended up being the thing that got it done =)
