Hi
I´m about to buy final render stage 2.

But I would be very happy to learn more about the real value.
So if anybody using it could tell me if its worth the price (especially for networkrendering)
I would be very thankful.

...and very interesting would be how fast it is compared to cinema 9.5 when it comes
to area lights and radiosity or ambient occlusion. ...and blurry reflections??

So thanks again
Holger

In my opinion some advantages from testing it.>
the main 2 points for me
1.for one, Final Render supports Bucket rendering, which allows you to render a single image over a network, which is not possible in C4d, especially with radiosity etc..

2.It gives much more control over the Global Illumination than C4d AR.
And it is very, very fast with GI -
I also think that the GO is much cleaner than in C4d ( C4d has until now a lot of problems with splotches on planar surfaces - AO in 9.5 seems to help hide these, but they are still there from the GI solution.)
I am switching to using FR for arch renderings because of these reasons.

also a strong point is that FR translates pretty well the c4d material system, - bar some shaders-, and has in addition its own node based system, so you can choose which one you use, or combine both. -

I'd simply like to echo what moka-j says. If you do any type of architectural or similar visualisation, it's a very good choice. The integration into C4D is pretty flawless, and almost all shaders you're used to work with are implemented more or less identically in FR, so you don't have to leave much behind either.

As with most renderers, it produces its own "look" so to speak, and most of the time it's a very pleasant look indeed.

Personally I rarely do visualisation type renders, so I haven't actually used FR as much as AR even though I've had access to it for quite some time now while being on the beta team.

So in conclusion I'd say that to answer the direct question of the topicline: it depends. If you rely on GI for your rendering needs, there's no reason to think twice. Just order it. If you do professional visualisation (architectural, industrial, etcetera), go for it. If you're more into "artistic expression" you might not necessarily need it.

I've found the AR in c4d to produce some really nice stuff for me. But, I am willing to consider another app. that can take rendering another step higher if the difference is clearly noticeable. In saying that, I have heard about AR with enthusiasm from the more knowledgeable of you, but I have also heard about Maxwell's renderer. Any comments about just HOW MUCH of a difference the FR and Maxwell's really provide in terms of rendered quality?

Just need some guidance as to what these other apps would substantially provide that AR doesn't already.

{HOLY MOLY! $695!!! No need to explain benefits....cost will keep me from thinking about getting it. Saw some images from its use and they were GORGEOUS! Oh, well.}

I'm afraid that it would be hard for anyone to supply such guidance to be honest - it's like those threads about "what's the best 3D app?", there's no straight answer.

AR is excellent. FR is excellent. Maxwell is, well, Maxwell I guess :D Nah, I haven't used it, and cannot have an opinion about it.

Bottom line: you'll probably have to try it. Don't know if there will be some sort of FR demo available down the road or something (or if there already is)... that would help of course.

JamesMK,

Thanks for your reply. There's always a subjective danger in asking which app. is "better." My question should have been clearer. I was just wondering if these apps TRULY create images that are THAT MUCH BETTER than the AR in c4d or just easier? If it's just easier, I'm going to save my $695, if MUCH better I'll need to start putting some money way each month until I reach $695 or what ever Maxwell's renderer will be....

I think we'll have a much better read on Maxwell next week--if NL actually delivers on 11/22 as promised. The current beta can produce some amazing renders but it's a looong way from the final product (hasn't been updated in nearly 6 months).
