Hello EveryoneThis is a bit of a classic situation but I do not know how to do it. I have a character with heavy shoes, and when he jumps on the floor I would like the floor to gradualy crack and then fall away from under his feet so as he may fall through.
Does anyone out there have any sugestions how I could go about doing this please, or know of any good tuts.

Thanx in advance

Generally the easiest way is to make the mesh of the floor into many segments and use a couple of force/gravity effectors to break it over time.

What package are you using?

Yup. Pre split the floor mesh and surrounding bits and pieces and hand animate the hero chunks. This is the fastest way. Then use particles for the dust and small bits.

You could try simcloth for dynamics or reactor but sometimes its more expedient to hand animate.

Head over to the Visual Effects Challenge and read a couple of the posts there.
