Hey all,
I have been working on creating a realistic automotive finish for my models. I finally got to where I was happy with it and decided to do a 4 second animation using the Ferrari model included with Lightwave 8. Unfortunately the renders were taking on average 3 hr. 49 min. per frame due to full radiosity, raytracing, AA, and HDRI lighting. This was way to long of render times for my animation so I decided to play around and see if I could speed it up. By using Multipass rendering and DFX+ to composite the images I was able to get an almost identical look and it only took around 4 hrs. to render the 119 frame animation and composite it. Much, much beter. This animation is what I came up with at the end of my first test.
I am just looking for critiques on anything you see. I have only worked on the paint at this point so ignore the other texturing. Also this is my first attempt at multipass rendering and compositing so any advice on that would be great. One last thing, there are some fragments in the video. This does not appear in the renders and composite so I think they are just part of the video compression.

Thanks for taking a look at this and letting me know what you think.
