Hey,

I am just starting this new animtion with some new characters I just finished. Its in the blocking process right now, I just want to get some opinions and ideas on the acting choices.

wow, pretty good blocking pass. great poses for the bully guy, but I think the Kid use a little more on his first part where he says "you dont have any goals" I picture him with his upper torso slightly bent and tilted a bit more forward looking at the bully and he could be shaking his head left and right slightly as he says the line, like,

have his CHIN lead his head shaking motion.

left, right, left, in, out

You dont haveany Goals!

Just a thought, but looks great

Hey Keetell,

Thanks for the ideas. I could definetly see him doing something like that near the beginning. It seems like his performance at the beginning is a little flat right now.

Heres an update:

Lip sync is just a place holder, it still needs alot of work, any other comments are welcome.
Thanks!

Well speaking as just a "movie goer", the "lean" looks weird now as it seems to be directed to a third person off camera. IMO he should be directing his lean (somehat) towards the other character (Michael Jackson pre-surgery ? :) )

really nice timing on this one. i think it is a good idea to block out the poses to get the timing correct. i agree with the earlier replies about the pose on the first bit of dialogue. not sure how to really add to it though. perhaps something along the lines of a *sigh*, as if he feels sorry for the other character. i would love to see what this one will be like once it is finished. there is a lot of potential where the other character is explaining how he wants to be like him. you can do a lot with gestures and facial expressions there.

Hey thanks for the feedback.
Heres my first render of this animation. I've been looking at it for a long time, so any feedback would be appreciated

nice job. nice secondary motion on the arms. good reaction when the character turns around from opening the locker. continue to work on it. maybe have him point when he says "just like you". the rest of the defining elements would most likely come from the artist, so what else are you thinking about adding to it?

Haha, he says a Libotomy and some tights. Its a clip from The Breakfast Club which you can find online.

Anyway, Thanks for the comments guys. As far as the acting goes, I am not really adding anymore gestures. I think theres enough to tell the story there, although I may change the Bully's last gesture to something more defined..I dont want to have him point however, I think its too literal of a movement, but I did consider it. I'm working on tightening up the lip sync and the secondary motion right now. I should have an update soon.

Thanks!

oh that blocking pass, how did you interpolate ur tangents, i can't seem to get mine to work the same way.

btw nice job with that, i have to block out a simple animation myself, and right now it's alittle tough thinkin about takin some video of myself, how did u go about it?

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm still workin on improving this animation. I'm gonna take a little time away from it and look at it with fresh eyes a little later...

Gunslinger:
For the blocking pass I use default curve tangents but I flatten them between the poses so that there is no drift or any overlap. I dont like straight stepped keys because I personally feel like they are too far from the inished in-betweened motion.. just my preference. When I start a new animation I use a digital still camera with the movie feature to capture myself acting it out. Its just faster this way because all i do is plug it in and I get small QT movies to work with that are ready to go.

Hope that helps!
