Hey guys, this is more of a notice than a question:
I've just been doing some renders on a small farm we've set up here, which consists of 7 computers of the exact same hardware build, and our three development pcs (of various makes).
An interesting anomaly has occured though. On our work pcs, the renders look great, but on the 7 same-build machines, the raytracing shaders are all wrong.
Here's what I discovered. For some reason, the problem machines can't handle mental ray under Blinn shading. When I change it to Phong or Ansiotropic or Oren-Nayar-Blinn, the shaders look fine.
Now, this seems like a hardware problem, since we have basic installs on all machines with no plugins or scripts or unlinked server dependencies. The same-build machines all have hyperthreading, but even when disabled they get the same issue. Memory also doesn't seem to be an issue.
Anyone have similar problems with their farms? For now I've had to "solve" the problem by changing the shading method, but there will be a time when I'm really goig to need Blinn, I'm sure.
