I am trying to figure out how people typically export max animations to Flash.

So far the only way we have gotten to work is by rendering out each frame to still image and then importing it in to flash as a sequence. This works but I know this is not the optimal way.

My friend has a flash file that someone else had done that has some 3d in it and there are 2 big diffrence between ours and theirs. First, theirs appears to be vector art, ours does not. Second, when you look in the library in flash on ours every frame shows up as a sepperate image but when you look in the library in their file there is only one image.

I am using max 5 and Flash MX, I have found the max shockwave exporter but this appears to only export to director files (wich we do not have access to at this time). I have a copy of Plasma at home but have not really began to use it yet. We should have a copy here at work later today.

Any help would be great.

P.S. I would prefer not to have to purchase any plug-ins if it is not completely neseccarry.

You don't export to flash, you render it.
There should be a render plugin that comes with max called vecta3d or something like that. Use that.

Hmm, I was going to suggest you look into Illustrate it allows you to render flash, Adobe Illustrator eps. But you don't want to buy a plug in, if I can find anything I'll post it up. Did you try ScriptSpot.com, maybe there is a script for this type of thing. :)
Edit: or you could do what Erilaz posted, didn't know of that 1!

I'm sorry I should have said render, thats what i meant.

The version of max I am using is an NFR so I didn't get vecta3d.

ScriptSpot.com was the first place I looked but couldn't find anything.

Discreet Plasma is all i have to say. Coupled with max, plasma is one amazing tool. But if you don't have plasma*cough*, then vecta3d is definetely the way to go! It works great.

You're right there Tex. In fact, vecta3D is the renderer used in Plasma (or at least I'm pretty sure it is).

Just for the record I rate Illustrate! as the least useful Flash exporter, I don't recommend buying it for that purpose.

Plasma's exporter is nice. I have no idea what to use Plasma for, since its Flash rendere works just as well in MAX as any other plugin. A pleasent advantage to the way Discreet has implemented the Flash rendere.
