how'd you mean - like volume shadow effects off raindrops that pass in front of the headlight?

Think car headlight and rain. Basically I wan't the light broken up by the rain particles.

well if your doing a camera move too I'd render off your headlight, then I'd render off a sep pass of the rain and add some volume shadow effects using a compositing tool. I wouldnt' try and do it in the render it'll end in tears, you'll have nothing like the control you want and will take ages to render!

Yeah, I figured it was a post effect. I guess I'll render the rain particles seperatly then have the camera follow the car to create the 3d effect.

now yer talking - comping is great fun too!!
heres my car anim wip - this is currently four layers, beauty, rainpass (basically bw image mapped with animated rain texture travelling along surface of car), diffusion/ao pass and particlemist. reflection will be separate and there'll be glow fx on the headlight soon too.
