View Full Version : (Speed Ramping??) Gun Cam ala Battlestar Galactica...

Hello,

I am trying to achieve a camera effect similar to that used in BattleStar Galactica when there are space combat scenes. You know, where a camera tracks an object for a few seconds then zooms in quickly with a sort of jerk to it. Can anyone give me any pointers as how to do this? I don't have enough time for trial and error on this. Thank you!

Edit: Also, I think this is called Speed Ramping, but I am not sure. THNX

The quick answer: key your focal length.

The quick (but a little more detailed answer): animate your camera to move forward, while making the zoom factor decrease.

Or more formulaic:

when your camera is moving forward, zoom out
when your camera is moving backward, zoom in
This will give you the desired 'maximum warp'-vertigo-effect, where stars will become nothing but stripes in space. ;)
