can anyone point me in the right direction for a blood shader.. preferably for max... but anything i can learn from would be great.. also animating blood running down a face .. like a nose bleed... im using particles atm... any ideas ? anyone done this before? cheers me dears......:applause:

Have you considered merely using animated surfaces? They would surely render faster than particle systems... well, it would be fun to try anyway :)

As for creating the actual blood substance, that shouldn't be too hard :)

Depending on where the blood is coming from will affect the colour of the blood - for instance, blood from an artery is bright red, whereas blood from other parts of the body can be very very dark and thick.

I guess it's kinda similar to making a water texture, except that it has a thick colour.

Because of it's colour, you might not need to make it transparent, as blood only appears very transparent once it has dried. So if it is running, you can probably get away with making it a solid surface (ie 1))% opacity/0% transparency).

Then it's just a matter of pumping up the gloss and giving it some reflection (not too much though), and you should have a nice looking blood :)
