Hey everyone, this is my first game model and I could really use a little help with. The goal for this project was to creat a character from Starship Troopers with a poly count between 3000 and 4000 (tris) that can support facial animation. The character with all his accessories stands at 3577 tris as of right now. Now my question is how is my smoothing? Currently I am using 3ds max and really donít understand the smoothing group layout all that well. I notice there are some dark spots on the model, is there anyway I can get around that without adding geometry? Will the dark spots affect the texture in any way? Will the dark spots be visible on the textures? How is my topology? All Comments and Suggestions are welcome.

P.S. In 3ds max view port there seems to be some kind of default lighting turn on that generates shadows in the view port. You can really notice it on the under arms of the character. Is there anyway to turn that off?

The title got my attention straight away, gr8 film, as for ur model its lookn good, he seems a bot squashed tho, body to long r legs not long enough, hard to tel coz in the perspective view port in max it tends to squash r strech da model sum times, post sum side r front views please..
topologys ok, hes a bit chunky tho, no real hips r waits, just pull sum verts in abit to give abit of shape to the body, As for the dark areas under groin r arms dont worry to much bout them, they shouldnt show up when u put a texture on him.
As for the face for facial animation, its lookn well, u might need to add a bit more loops around mouth/cheeks.. do a few quick practice animations on it to check.. over all its pretty cool.. who raaaaa..

Agreed, Great film
Well the idea I was going with was making the armor really large like the movie, maybe thatís why he looks a little chunky. I tried to make this uniform loose fitting but maybe I made it a little to loose. As far as the face, I was thinking it needed a loop or two around the mouth but I wasnít sure. I'll make some changes tonight. Thanks for the help.

cool..its totaly cool to have loose fitting armor, but it would still have abit of a shape to it, coz its just a straight line down frm the shoulders down to the bottom of the armor, if u push it in abit, ul get the shape and its will stillb loose fitting, coz at the mo it looks like hes wearing armor dat a size r2 2big.
