View Full Version : weired reflection?...
stevedeer 11-19-2002, 03:57 PM Hi all
Take a look at these exhib panels I've just created, the panel on the left is reflected in the panel on the right. But it's the 'right' way around. Shouln't it be mirrored?

nope, this is the parabolic mirror effect... as often seen in science museums, yyou kn ow the one where it's a reflective half of a ball that you can put your hand into and shake your own hand... though it certainly looks odd!

oh and now the forums busy to
dammit, know it says I've allready attached that image wich I, as you see, haven't
now it shows upp after like 5 min, why did it wait?
i might be wrong but it looks to me as if it is a reflection of the back of the left hand stand (same words, reading the right way as a mirror in the reflection) have u tried applying the texture to one side only and a blank texture to the rear?
hope this helps.

no, it can't be the back of the first stand. if you look at the close-up of the reflection, you can see that the curve of the object goes inwards. if it would be the back the curve would be outwards..
it must be this optical effect mdme is talking about...
I have a crit....the object on the left looks like it is made of cardboard or some non reflective/low spec material, and as object 2 on the right looks to be made of the same material as well the reflection does not look in keeping with the shine both objects would return. So to me it looks like the material object 2 has been manufactured with is just shiny/glossy cardboard in that one area, only that isnt in keeping with the rest of the surface or the other object, and I think thats why the reflection is throwing everything off balance :)

Like your graphics!
Which pop-up system is it?
Slighty off topic -
We use a parabolic display system sometimes on exhibition stands. It works a treat - will try and post some photos of it in action..

ps - whats that font used on the main titles?

the font is 'square' (I think), it's a T26 font, it needs a lot of manual kerning to get it to look right, the pop up display is just made up for the presentation, I'll worry about the system when the client approves.
Hey, your local to me! this exhib is for a bus service from liverpool city centre to the airport
Kiwi
the materials are both the same (specularity etc), on each stand, just a different image in both colour channels

You've hit the nail on the head!
Cheers all

Yeah just looks like a natural thing, definitely not the back. Where will it be shown? i'll keep me eye out for it.
And btw i really like your "european capital of culture" logo (even before i knew who done it) nice idea. :)

Hey Tommy
Tried to email you thru this forum to no avail. Glad you like my logo, how did you know I did it? Don't know where the exhibs will be, perhaps the airport.
Are you a Cinema user? (stupid question I suppose) where do you work?

Hey
I found the link to your website from your profile, then checked your portfolio. I'm just doing Cinema as a hobby at the moment, still learning then hopefully i'll take it further.
