View Full Version : Placing Alpha Cards on a Mesh....

Hello! I have a question, Ive been trying to figure it out for about a week now. Im currently working on creating a duck, a photoreal Mallard. Ive been trying to figure out how I can create the feathers Ill need in order to acheive a realistic look. Ive seen the little tidbits in magazines and what not on how they achieved the feather looks in Valiant and more recently Chicken Little.

However I haven't seen many resources on how to place the amount of cards I would need onto my mesh as well as have the ability to "comb" them so they face the way I need in order to create a realistic flow. Also I would need to be able to control density and size in different areas considering the duck's feathers are smaller on the head for example and larger on the body and wings.

If anyone could help me out and perhaps point me in the right direction I would be forever grateful. Ive tried using Shave and Haircut as well as maya fur, but I havent had so much luck in these areas...maybe someone can shed some light on using these two plugins in a situation like this. Sorry about the long thread, but I am comitted to getting this guy to look damn good, and I need some help. Thanks guys!

Tony
