View Full Version : Reactor Controller Problem/Question

I am unable to get a box to rotate in "reaction to" a bone's rotation which is in part of an HI/IK chain. The attached image shows what I would like to happen, but when I set up the green box to 'react to' the red thigh bone, and I create the second reaction, I get the message that a reaction already exists for this value --as if the reaction is not 'seeing' the red bone rotate.

I am connecting the green box's 'react to' to the red thigh bone's fk subcontrol/z rotation track. But I get the same message when wiring the box to a dummy which is linked to the bone

The idea is that the green box is something on a utility belt that I need to automatically raise and lower with the thigh. Reactor wiring the box rotation to the 'z position' of the ik Controller works but doesn't give me what I want as you can imagine why.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or can anyone suggest a way to accomplish this? Do I have to use a reactor script?

Thanks,
Mahlon

First off, would linking the object to the thigh bone not be possible? That would definitely handle the rotation inheritance. Another option would be to use an Orientation constraint to keep the object aligned (with some play) to the bone.

Thanks Brandon, linking would work ok, but I'd like more control over the green box at different rotation values of the thigh. A combination of orientation contraints and linking could probably get me there, but I thought I'd try reactor controller because this is perfect for what it's made for.

I guess my main question is: 'Is it possible to have an object react to the local rotation of another object which resides in an HI/IK chain?' So far, it seems not. And I s'pose that is because the IK goal is actually changing it's position and controlling the thigh bone, so the green box never 'sees' the thigh bone actually rotate. Still, I'm not giving up yet. There's gotta be a way.

Thanks again,
Mahlon
