View Full Version : poly question for maya modelers
horus01 11-19-2002, 01:07 PM hi,
can anyone help me with this problem.
To get rid off the "seam" when you duplicate one side off a head.
I've tried everything (i think)...
I duplicated the one side off the head i've modeled. Then combined the two together, merged the vertices and "smoothed"
the whole thing.
But somehow the "seam" is still clearly visible.
I getting pretty frustrated for not being able to fix this...
so, does anyone have the answer????
thanx

Once you have the two sides combined you can select the edges of the seam and delete them. Then select the leftover verts and delete them. And then go back with the split polygon tool and recreate the seam which should now have perfectly smooth tangents across it.
I'm not sure if this is the best way, but it works for me.
good luck,
ww

sounds like a good option to do.
I'll give it a try.
thanx

stitching would work. in fact, use connectPolyShape to mirror your hear... CPS turns identical verts into single points, thus enabling a smooth mirror.

When you say smoothed do you mean you used a smooth operation? or did you fix the normals? Try softening or averaging the normals from the edit polygons menu. Also, double check to make sure your vertecies at the seem have merged.
