View Full Version : Final Cut Express resolution settings
Jorge Arango 11-13-2005, 12:07 AM The easy setup function in FCE has a lot of presets, but what if I want to work with a different resolution like, for instance, 400 x 400 pixels. I have searched the manuals and the menus without success. Anybody knows how this is done?
Thank you,
Jorge Arango

Don't know about Express, but in Pro you would do all this in the "Audio/Video Settings..." menu, i.e. choose/customize sequence presets, capture presets etc. and create easy setups to you liking.
Or you could just change it in the settings of the sequence in question.
Hope this helps,
Marc

Thank you for your reply Marc.
This seems to be a limitation of Express since I can't find the "Audio/Video Settings" menu and if I Ctr-click on the sequence, I get a "Items properties/Format" menu which only lets me change the name of the sequence, the other settings like "Frame size" cannot be modified.
Again thank you,
Jorge

If you control/right-click on the sequence, does it say "Settings..." in the context menu? This is where you would do all your changes in FCP. But maybe FCE is limited to DV only.

No, no "Settings" if I right-click on the sequence. Seems to be limited to DV.

While it seems that you might be stuck with DV you might want to look this up in Apple's discussion forums (http://discussions.apple.com) just to make sure.

Yes, that looks like the right place to ask.

A quick search of the Apple forum gave me this:
Question:
"I want to make a slideshow in FC Express to be presented on a Apple 30" cinema display.
My digital photos have plenty of resolution for this screen (2560x1600px), but it seems that FC is limiting the resolution to 720x480.
How and where can I set the resolution so that it doesn't get so small?
Thanks for any help!
Blaine "
Answer:
"You can't. FCE is a fixed resolution application. It only works in DV or HDV. You need a resolution independent application like Final Cut Pro. "
But I found a workaround for the problem I have now. I'm starting with an image sequence and I can resize that in Photoshop and after editing in FCE I can downsize with QuickTime Pro.
