View Full Version : Weird Soft Selection Error (help!)

I got a rather bizare problem with a scene at the moment.

Using Max7, and I am confident its something I have done rather then a actualy bug with the software. (because it effects no other scenes)

Basicaly, when I use soft-selection, I cant move any vertexs! The gizmo dosnt even appear. The second I turn soft selection off, it all works as normal :-/
I have tried using the co-ordinate box to move the selected vertexs, but that dosnt work either. (spinner works, but it always goes back to zero when I let go)
I tried re-merging the object into a new file and I get the same problem...any ideas?

When i have similar problems (not that in particular), i export to OBJ and import into a new scene. The merge command is good, but sometimes the merged objects have the same problems.

Hope that helps

Thanks, but I really wanted to keep my modifer stack and materials in tack :-/I keep thinking its gota be something obvious I am missing.

Can't think what might be doing this, but here's a couple of ideas to avoid the problem.

First, try adding a new edit poly modifier to the stack and see if you can use soft select in that.

Second, if none of this works, then try collapsing the stack. If that clears up whatever the problem was, undo the collapse and try the following:

I don't know what's on your stack, but if there aren't things based on specific vertex selections or similar you can copy and paste the modifiers to another dummy object while collapsing the original object and then paste them back. This works fine for things like turbosmooth, symmetry, bend etc.

Just make a box and drag the modifiers off the stack of your original object onto the box. Then collapse the original object and drag the modifiers back onto it from the box.

Thanks for the ideas.

Ok.
Collapseing the stack to a edit poly dosnt help..same problem.

However, converting to an Edit Mesh fixs it,soft selections work fine, and converting back the problem starts again.

So, effectively, while in Edit Poly, this object always has this weird effect.
Turning Soft select on and off and you can clearly see the gizmo appearing and dissapering.

And this problem dosnt effect other objects.

Now, I can (just about) live with using Edit Mesh and converting to Edit Poly when needed, but this problem is so weird I am determained to find the solution.
