I'm getting this more and more lately.

Losing a hour or more of work, when i fail to check if the dongle is turned on once i launch lightwave. I realise its on discovery mode when i try to save, and i start screaming at the monitor.

Has anyone any idea what is causing this? I updated the dongle drivers but its not helping.

Sounds like a bad USB port or dongle. Once you start Lightwave with the dongle in it should not change to discovery mode even if the dongle is removed or no longer there.

Are you sure you start in non-discovery mode and then Lightwave shifts to discovery mode on you? Or are you forgetting to have the dongle in place when starting?

Just guessing.

No the dongle is already off (plugged but the light is off) when i start lightwave.

But i wish they included some kind of routine in LW9 that returns it to normal mode if the dongle turns on again.

I can't tell if its the problem is on the usb port or the dongle. If i unplug and replug it, it turns on again! Weird

It's doubtful, but perhaps it's some sort of power-saving feature on your machine?
and a side note: I have a Dell monitor at work with USB ports. The ports would be recognized..install..and then disappear from the Dell, but worked fine when connected to my Mac. I upgraded drivers, tried different cables...no luck. Luckily, we had a second monitor of the same model. Replaced it and it's worked fine. So yeah..maybe a wacky USB port.

An option to plug that thing in after the fact would be helpful. Do a feature request on NEWTEKs site. So command to recheck for dongle...

So it is on start up that Lightwave misses the dongle and starts/stays in discovery mode then?

I think once you make sure Lightwave sees the dongle on start up you can pull the thing and keep working even with it gone. So if you make sure you check that it is seen by Lightwave at start up you should be good to go. Not easy I know as I have started Lightwave too many times with my dongle on my Key chain - it haveing gone home with me the night before... I know a pain in the backside.

I think Newtek has a fairly good record for replacing broken dongles - ones that have gone through the wash in a pocket a few too many times so give them a call and see what it takes to get a new one sent.

Try a new USB port if you have one open.

Best of luck thats my 2 cents - but not worth a penny.

If your submitting a feature request, I think a splash screen when you launch in Discovery mode would be enough, one that you physically have to close. That would get your attention enough to make you realize that your dongle is not attached or needs a wiggle to get a better connection. Beside I think it would be a lot less for them to develop if it were just a splash screen.

Nice Auger, Problem solved. Now we need Newtek to make this standard.
