Hello,
Can anyone get mindthink.de's AE exporter to work with XSI Foundation 5 and AE 6.5? If so can you give me some clues as to how you're using it succesfully?

thanks,

mm

well, I had a lot of problems importing a longer sequence, but cutting it to something like 300 frame pieces worked. Do you have the newest version of the script?

I'm actually just testing the connection now, so all i have in the XSI file is a camera and a directional light and a null, just to see if i can get it to import.

I have the latest script (or at least i think i do, it's the one that's at mindthink.de now).
Perhaps it's the way I'm using it, as there doesn't seem to be any instructions.
This has been my procedure:

1) export the xsi scene by running the script in the script browser - no dialogue boxes or anything pops up = it just creates a script.

2) in after effects, I select a comp ( I've found that only24 fps works as after effects seems to have an internal number for frame rates of 23.976 that resolves to more precision than xsi. If I try to create a 23.976 comp in after effects and import a 23.976 scene from xsi, the script says there is a discrepancy and fails). A solid is created and placed in the comp, but now camera, etc.

where am I going wrong?

thanks,

mm

hello, ive used this to some degree, i was only after the camera though and maybe some positional nulls. I dont have the plugins in front of me but your running the xml import script in AE and it imports stuff right? I think whatever you have selected in XSI when you run the AE export script gets output into the xml.

Also had no problems in the transfer in general unless an animator keys the cam root or FOV but these can be plotted, manually entered or copy and pasted from the xml file straight into AE after a bit of text formatting by a cleverer person than I..

hey thanks.. it was the selection in xsi that i was missing. seems to work. I'm only going to be after camera position and 4 nulls so hopefully this will work for me.

thanks.
