View Full Version : Wacom...........on Maya, Xp64bit Advice
Hello,
I've finally got around to purchasing a Wacom. Was wondering if anyone had any advice for me.
I'll get the Intuos 3 4x5, http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/4x5.cfm (http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/4x5.cfm)
Don't want to clutter up my desk with the larger ones. I do image cleaning every morning so its bound to get a good workout.
I'll also be using it with Maya, anyone get any input on 3d apps and wacom usability? Any problems?
Also does the Intuos function on xp64bit?
Much thanks
Fess

integration is fine with wacom and most 3d apps...you can find on the wacom website which software supports which features.
I am painting and texturing everyday....but simple vert pushing is easier for me using the mouse because I dont need to be as delicate with it. The wacom does come in handy if your using paint effects or 3d paint texture tool.

I agree, I only find my tablet useful when doing somethat that required a "paint" brush or any brush ie weight mapping etc... I just find it to hard to work with maya modeling with the tablet, but I'm sure if I put some time into it instead of always going back to my mouse I would eventually get better.

That's the key. I'll have NO CHOICE but to use the wacom because I spend about 1 hour every morning beautifying my clients models. I'll see if it helps my workflow and my wrist....

btw.... wacom works awesome on the Zbrush modelling workflow
my primary discontent with a stylus is going through menus and clicking buttons...you have to move your entire hand to do this ...where as with a mouse its less muscle movement involved

I use a pen for everything from drawing to modeling to animating , it works just fine in maya under xp64.

I've been using pens since I started to use computers. In fact I have 3 digital tablets attached to different computers. Although I also have a mouse attached too, I almost never touch it. Actually I’m surprised that some people prefer a mouse over a pen in situations like moving verts, for me doing this with a mouse is incredible pain especially if I have to hold the MMB and drag, which actually is one of Maya’s most favorite actions. In fact, I believe that if I had to use Maya only with a mouse I would have not been a Maya user, simply for health reasons – in my experience Maya is an app with most extensive mouse usage which most of the time requires a mouse button being pressed - this can devastate wrists if you work long hours.
