Title: The Old Cupboard Door
Name: Jure Zagoricnik
Country: Slovenia
Software: 3ds max

When I realy got hooked on 3D my first book I bought was Digital Painting and Texturing. Inside I found a picture of a painting called "The Old Cupboard Door" painted by William Michael Harnett (1848-1892). I decided to test my modeling and texturing skills and try to replicate this masterpiece. With modeling I tried to stick as much as possible to the original but with textures I wanted to go my own way. It was fun working on it but the time has come for me to move on to other projects. I hope someone will find it enjoyable to look at.

High resolution image link is the same size but not as compressed as the one uploaded to CGT.

This is a beautiful replica. Great texturing and rendering.

Now go use your skills on an original piece. The world needs more of this kind of CG.

waw! perfect replication! did you use HDRimaging? the lightning is perfect.

I agree with previous replier about your skill, you should put this to some original use

Thanks for the kind words. I never use HDRI for lighting, only for reflections. Lighting is pretty simple. One direct light and one or two spot lights as specular only. The rest is GI.

That's amazing, that really is stunning. I think the imperfections like the boards that are uneven and the one that's chipped make this image truly remarkable. But that's just one of the good points, this really is excellent all around.

Nice work.

Very nice work .... I have always been intrigued by Trompe L'Oei painting ( Illusion of Reality, roughly).

I have a wonderful book on the history of Trompe L'Oei painting, if I can put my hands on it I will post the title for you.

Keep up the excellent work!
Cheers ;)

I made the statue as well but as this was my first try at organic modeling I didn't like to too much and wasn't up to standard so I decided to leave it out.

Thanks again to everyone for all the kind words.
