SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
Position Summary
Under limited supervision, administers all aspects of an advanced, heterogeneous computer network supporting an extensive pipeline for 3D animation and visual effects. Performs systems and applications analysis, design and programming to generate a variety of innovative solutions to complex problems. Performs installation, maintenance, training, and user support as required. Plans and coordinates projects to meet future needs and delivers growth analysis with capacity evaluations.
Job Description
· Ensure that the best possible hardware and software infrastructure is in place to support 3Dsite systems
· Allocate development time, manage workloads and create schedules for ongoing projects by forecasting technical requirements
· Direct the research and evolution of 3rd party tools and products for use in 3Dsite projects
· Create, administer, maintain and archive MySQL databases
· Manages multiple workstations ensuring proper integration of components within existing and newly implemented 3Dsite systems
· Plan and implement system security policy, including firewalls, host and client access, file permissions, and user accounts.
· Research, evaluate, purchase, install, configure, and troubleshoot all hardware, peripherals, and equipment necessary to meet 3Dsite integrated systems objectives.
· Develop training and instruction programs
· Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology
· Write and create front ends with appropriate UI for Shell scripts
· Cutting and running new cables and perform general office wiring
· Install and debug new and/or upgraded software on server and client platforms
· Design, code, and manage 3Dsite website
· Diagnose, disassemble, reassemble and upgrade computer hardware
· Knowledge of 3D animation and visual effects software, e.g. Maya, Houdini, Shake, and Rush Render Queue
· Expertise with RAID systems.
· Works with 3Dsite staff to define system requirements and resolve problems
Qualifications
· Work experience with entertainment or production companies
· Knowledge 3D modeling and rendering
· Knowledge of FileMaker prefered
· Expertise with networks running windows 2000, XP, Windows Server 2003 and MacIntosh systems, BSD, RedHat, Unix and Linux · Experience in developing large software and/or hardware systems
· Excellent UNIX and Linux skills
· Knowledge of video formats PAL, NTSC, HD and Film
· Knowledge of CVS or Subversion versioning software
· Knowledge of TCP/IP and DNS and network protocols
· Proficiency with HTML, Apache, PHP, Perl, mySQL, Python, Tcsh
· Knowledge of relational database concepts
· Comfortable with communicating technical information to non-technical personnel
· Ability to organize and manage teams running concurrent projects and tasks in multiple disciplines
· Knowledge of a range of network systems, protocols, and applications
· Understanding of LAN administration in secure environments
· Prefer knowledge of PBX telephone systems
· Prefer software engineering background with strong documentation skills
