which of these apps would be easier for a lightwave user to migrate to

XSI
Maya
C4D
other

im an old max/lw user w/ some maya experience (just poly modeling) but prefer LW, but was just wondering which app would be:

1. easier to migrate to
2. smarter to migrate to

XSI would suit you the best coming from Lightwave. That is where I am at now, although I still like to use Lightwave for some things.

Personally, based on experience, I found Cinema 4D easier to migrate to. But I also found C4D somewhat lacking in certain aspects compared to LW.

I also "migrated" to XSI, taking advantage of Avid's huge price drops, which I think was the smarter choice. It's a powerful app and well recognized in CG animation circles. It does have a huge learning curve to overcome.

I stayed away from Maya because I'm one of those people who like to "go against the grain" so to speak. ;)

Overall, LightWave is still my preferred app of choice.

Lets face it, if you comfortable with MAX, learning anything else is easy :D
It took me years before I was comfortable in MAX.

I must admit as someone who started with LW, I looked at all the demos and found XSI to be more LW'ish and esier to learn, even if it doesn't look like it on the surface. The same appears to hold true of several other LW users that now drop into the XSI forum.

XSI/Maya/C4D all have demo version, so you can take a try.
In my opinion, C4D is my choice : C4d could open/import LW scene and model directly and perfectly, and as lots people says, C4D has the most intuitive and effective workflow. :)

XSI is very intuative once you get your head round the render tree, which can be quite scary if you are coming from LW.
