View Full Version : strange tex bug?

For some reason cinema (r7) seems to have stopped wanted to read .tif files. It preferes jpg's now, which is strange because I seem to remember it once having an aversion to jpgs. I've got texture paths leading to several directories including the same folder as my current project and not only is it not loading them but one that was already loaded isn't showing and has a texture error before rendering... ...not sure what's going on.

Though it's probably something simple that will make me feel silly.

Any help appreciated.

Are you jumping between Mac and PC? Mac and PC tif files differ. You may also have turned off "Use quicktime" and/or gotten a new version of QuickTime or something.
When "Use quicktime" is on all image formats that QT understand are translated by QT before loading into Cinema.

OT Really simple trick but useful to beginners perhaps:
When rendering an animation you can render individual images (TIFF, JPEG etc) and still play the animation.
Open QT movieplayer (Pro version required) and choose "Open image sequence". Select the first rendered image, select a framerate and now you can play your movie.
This way you cans start checking the animation before it has finished animating (kind of like opening the presents before x-mas).

Also, Cinema doesn't like compressed .tif files. If they're compressed resave them as uncompressed.

Yea, replies...

I did update quicktime a while ago but I think it was before this. I remember it put an icon in my systray that I couldn't get rid of so I had to msconfig and uncheck it. I'll look into it.

I'm using JASC paint shop pro to edit .tifs, not moving between mac and pcs, and I don't think I messed with the compression settings. Well see.

Thanks.

If the tifs which wont open are in layers and have more then one alpha sometimes you can have trouble opening them. Also go back into PSP and just check everything is as normal with the file.Actually save out a blank flattened .tif and see if it will open in 7 then.

Well I fixed it by reinstalling quicktime with a few extra options from the custom install. I didn't think tifs would be associated with qt for some reason. I've been using so many in engine textures that it was a while after I messed with it that I needed to pic texture something. Cinema was reading tif images rendered by cinema but it wouldn't read things created by psp. Wish it had it's own graphics converters...

Have to be more careful messing with things next time.

thnx
