View Full Version : Texturing a really thin fence ?

Hey guys (and hopefully girls as well),

Does anyone have any tips on doing textures for a thin metal fence ? I made one in photoshop that's just simple white on black, so I can also use it as alpha map in 3ds max, but when I do a 800x600 render it looks very soft and not at all like a fence.

The idea is to make a texture on a plane for a grandstand (race track stand) to make a fence in front of it. Thin, metal, but it's got to be visible....not detailed, but at least it should give the idea of a fence-structure, if you get my idea :)

So basically I could get away with any kind of line pattern, as long as it gives the right illusion :)

Anyone know any tricks to do this ?

Thanks :)

Well, it's just a matter of making a cool looking metal texture, and you haven't mentioned what kind of metal you are wanting to create :)

Perhaps it would be best to post a render of what you have made so far - that way it is easier for people to help you ;)

The problem that you are having with the render looking very soft may be to do with the size of the actual image map - what size did you make it in Photoshop?
