View Full Version : How do you UV map and texture high rez model? I am new so i need help.
frontjibi 11-10-2005, 02:49 AM The character i modeled is high poly. I just got into Uv mapping. I am having little trouble working with them since i have too many poyls to keep track of.
What do you do if you have to texture a high rez model? Do you model pieace by peace or do it straight in a row?
If you have any tips for uv mapping and texturing please tell me.
Thanks.

Have you tried Unwrap UVW?
Post a pic of your model and maybe I can get more insight into your problem.

First of all, thanks for helping me out.
The thing is, it gets very slow if i try to UV map my character in sub-d form. And i still don't get what or how to do this UV thing. I am using Maya 6.5. But i never heard that you can unrap the polys for you in clean form.
How do you think i should start UV mapping this? Sub-d or poly mode if my final character is in sub-d? What are the steps i should take? What else do i need to do?
Here are two pics of it. This might help you out.

Hey man, sorry, I guess I should have asked what software you were using first.
I'm a Max man, not Maya. Try posting in the Maya forum or wait for a Maya Pro
to see this post.
Nice looking model BTW.

It's alright.
Since this is my first complete 3d model, it's purpose isn't to be perfect. I made this decent looking model for me to get past and know every steps right to the very end when i start animating him.
Then i'll start over and work on my dream characters and animation that i've been meaning to do it for that is the reason i got into 3d animation.
