Hello all. First post here. Been filming shorts for awhile now and finally ready to jump into incorporating VFX. I currently run Apple Shake and Adobe After Effects (only touched them for a couple hours) and use Final Cut Pro HD and Avid Xpress Pro to edit. I'm preparing to forget the idea of sleep for quite awhile to rapidly learn either Shake or After Effects. Looking for something that will create effects similar to The Devil's Backbone. Kid should be walking down the sidewalk with a gentle mist coming out of his head. It's a surreal film and there's going to be a huge chunk missing out of his head... about a third. I've got no problem with color correction and green screening but I'd like a good direction for vfx and thought this was the best place to start.

Looks like a great community and I look forward to being a member for a very long time.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
