View Full Version : Max material question
Giant_Robo 11-18-2002, 04:38 PM Doe anyone know how to get a material that is actually white.
I have set up my materials as white and my lighting as well but my materials always render out as grey
any help would be greatly appreciated

Use a white diffuse color, and boost your self illumination to 100%.

Thanks for answering
Ive tried that, the only problem with making the self illumination 100% is that any texture detail will get washed out.
My diffuse is set to 255,255,255 but it still apears grey in the materials slot and in the render.

if you add rgb level in the output section and you don't use clamp then your diffuse will have a strength of it's own

I don't acctually get the idea of what you want..
But why don't you try higher light multipliers?.. :)
And when you use a texture in the diffuse slot and boost the self illumination to 100 - the texture details remain... only there's no shading, the whole object has the exact color as the texture.
...or perhaps you should check the ambient/global lighting (can't remember how it's called exactly) in the "enviroment" settings ("render" tab -> "enviroments"). It might be set that the white point is 0.5 or the color is set to grey.
Just try the settings a bit.
Good luck. :)

maybe you can use the ANISOTROPIC shader with it's DIFFUSE LEV,increase the Number to what you want.

Actually, Insect 666 your suggestion into the enviromental settings led me to dig around.
I ended up using the advanced lighting and the light tracer, with a skylight. A little tweaking of the light multipliers and the white came through.
Thanks for everyones suggestions and help, I tried all the suggestions but the light tracer was best for what I needed.
