Ive been very intrested in a couple of the visual effects demo reels Ive seen about and was going to have a go at my own peice. I read through the sticky at the top of the forum, but found it to be a lot of information. I have After Effects, 3ds Max, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop would this be enough to start doing some Visual effects? How hard is it to mix a 3D model into a DV capture? Is there maybe a program that I should look into that is a central tool to creating visual effects? Thanks for any help offered. Hope Im not posting a topic that comes up every few days.

Please don't tell us you spent thousands of dollars/pounds on that software without knowing what it can do!
Ouch.

yep, you're all good to explore the fundamentals. after effects is a great way to learn the possibilities of what's possible with an easy interface. once you know AE well, it's quite easy to swtich to other programs, because then it's just a matter of finding the right button to press.
