Well it depens if you want to have a general overiew or really master the software. But I think with some introduction tutorials you can get very quickly access to the most common tools in XSI and wil realize how straightforward and easy to use it actually is.

if you have a book in your hand, and you are working hard reading it. it will take you no more than a month tobe an expert.

yes i agree. It took me about 2 months to pick up xsi and it has a very intuitive workflow. The tutorial that come with it are perfect, you will learn EVERYTHING IN THE SUPPLIED TUTS!! I was very impressed. Alo the manuals that it comes with are great. You can also get tons of help from xsibase.com and edharriss.com,tons of experts there. You can try it out for free with experience cd too.

I have found few bugs in the program and the rendere is second to none.

The only problem with xsi is the god damn price. Lightwave is nearly 1/10th the price of xsi!! And LW is shaping up to be a pretty good program and has a pretty good renderer too. There are lots of LW users out there. It seems to be the game producers choice these days. I think cause the price is under $2000.
