hi all !

here is my fist kinda realistic head

donne with maya / mr_sss_skin_shader

dunno why but sss backlit stopped working on this polymesh for some reason i just can't get it to work again :shrug: there are only 4 triangles in it ...

i know the textures are quite coarse but well .. it keeps render time below 20 sec so...

hope you mighty render dudes like it and any crits or tips very wellcome !

you have a good start , but i think the ear is a bit too far back, an the eyelashes ar lookin on the femine side the archin a bit too high at the end. but keep it up look good

lookin spiffy, especially since the lips dont look like a fish's (the most common problem in a billion models) but show us a profile, and get that ear right. And this forum usually smells for critiques lately.....

that looks really nice, but the skin looks very solid (because the sss stopped working?) Get it fixed and i think it will look much much better. the eyes might use some highlights

i moved the ear foward a bit and started tweaking the eye to make it less feminine

i think the real problem is that there's not much wrong with it that you're not aware of. you're fixing the ear and the lack of SSS has been noted. other than that, it's a solid model, but without much else to go on, people aren't going to say much. people WILL burn you here if there's a need. but there's no need. keep working, fix the skin, give him a body and some personality and you're going to be fine.

edit: mental ray doesn't like triangles but will render them, but the SSS if i remember rightly cannot if you're rendering subD. you're not rendering subD 'cos something's coming out. check that mentalrayTexture1 is hooked into the lightmap AND the SSS material. um, that should work, if not, i don't know why. nothing's fatal as you're getting an image, probably just a missed connection somewhere.

i checked vith some torus with triangles in it .. sss worked on it ..

found out the problem anyway : stupid normals were reversed .. bring on da renderztuningz !!

Let me begin by saying that this is a very good head.

Now, I might be repeating things that have already been said, but I think that the parts that require improvements are:

1) Buttom lip- too flat.
2) Eye is too far in- Try rotating his eye pupil to the side to see if he is "able to see" from the sides- if not you might want to edit the eye contour a bit.


Again, overral this is very good, don't get me wrong.

Keep it up.
