tb582 11-07-2005, 02:33 AM I need to model my character, these are the front and side views, what is the best way to go about setting up image planes in maya based on the images.

Go to the corresponding panel you want the image to be in, and go view>image plane> import image. Once you have it loaded, you can go view>image plane>image plane attributes to set some options. Once in the attribute editor, I usually set the image back far enough so I can see my model, set display mode to RGB, and set display to looking through camera. Hope this helps.

I was thinking about modeling it usings poly's (smooth proxy) ... anyone agree?

Alright I have started to model my character, but his eyes just sorta sit above his head, how do I actually cut them into his head? is there an easy way or do I just have to play with the verts?

well the magic with polys is you can do this anyway you like..
Sounds like you could do some reading on poly modeling though..
You may want to visit the Bodytopology thread for examples of polywork.
personaly when i work with polys I use the split polytool, and the translate tool.. I dont care to discuss Edgelooping and proper topology for eyes and other facial/body parts.. but there is plenty of information on how the mesh should look in these forums.
