I stumbled across a nice greeble tutorial in a german cinema forum and asked for permission to translate it, so now it's available in english too. Doesn't need any commercial plugins. Since the greeble topic keeps popping up in here I thought I'd let you know.

thanks for the link, but I'm confused. he said you can do it without a special plugin and then goes and says you need the chestnuts pluging.

Hi Janine,

That's a nice translation and method to do these things.
Speaking of doing ..... I've had a go at your lamp image.
Here's my version:Hope it meets with your approval:)

Hmm, maybe I should have used "dedicated" as a translation. ;) The plugin he's referring to is a free one for doing a random polygon selection. What he means is that you don't need a special greeble plugin.

Hmmm.... How about you make something not quite so similar? ;) It's very good, but be creative, do something that's yours, not nicking other people's ideas. :p

thanks, but I'm having problems with the "happy dance" part. ;)

I think "happy dance" has a bug in 9.5. Should be fixed in the next release..

Thanks Janine. It works without the dance as well as it seems!

Cheers

Ah yes, hmm... I think I'll have to do something about links not being obvious enough in our board. I've put an arrow and "click link" next to it now, hopefully that'll do for now. ;)

I remember Chestnuts. Downloaded it back in 2001 but never played with it because the instructions were in Japanese and at the time, Babblefish did not do that language translation.

Good news! Four years later, now it does.

Thanks for the tut translation and posting.

I believe that the more recent reselector by remotion does the same job as the chestnuts selector.

http://remotion.de.vu/ (under downloads--scroll down)

I used to use chestnuts back in the day too--had a placer function before Jenna or Ditools were invented.

Nice tute tobias--thanks for posting janine.

Thank you, Tobias. Or as some would say: Danke schön!

Cheers
Björn

P.S. If you use Replica or Jenna in addition to this tutorial you can create some cool stuff.
Just a quick and dirty render.
