I start on monday the 24th of october with these firts lines while thinking of what to do. made with red verithin on 18x24 sketch paper which is my favorite size for sketching. my idea was still not clear in my mind then.

this page is a different and more dinamic perspective. two point perspective only. i was too scare to do a 3 point piece and loose too much time. at that point everything became more clear and my concept was cristalising in my mind

here is my lineart. i worked on it for about two weeks. it was done on a montage of 9 sheet of 18x24 paper for total size of 54x72 inches. i like working on huge size for line drawing since i feel like beeing in the image myself plus i can add much more details.there was details still not complete but i decide to scan the piece anyway and finish the work directly in photoshop. i had to cut my artwork in 26 pcs to be able to scan and i put it back together in photoshop actual size. initial scan was 150 dpi. i reduce the size by half to be able to start the b&w coloring but increase to 200 dpi for quality. so i start working with a 27x36 inches artwork. it remains huge in size but still is workable on my not so powerful i-mac. i have only 256 of ram but it is ok for now. the pain will be when i convert my file in colors. my powerbook could handle it but the screen is awful so i cannot use it for colors:(
plus i want to keep my file as big as i can in order to print it for myself to hang on the walls:)
bye the way. it will be my first finish art ever! still i will reduce final colored art to about 12x18 for submition.

after puting my line art together i start with simple gradient for sky and block main shapes in forground

at this stage i choose to put more details in my sky rigth away to have a better feeling of the mood i had in mind. to work quickly i did cut&paste of clouds found in other of my works. here and there i add some lights.

at this stage im building up my lightning, so slowlyyyy. plus i add my first drawing of clouds but still missing many to complete the sky. im almost done with this stage and still debating how i will do the color version. i have a general idea for color since at first i was planing a more atmospheric rendering towards cold moods but i would like to get a more rich, vibrant result. i was counting on the dinamics of other elements still to be had like some space ships/caracters to bring in some of the desired warm colors but im afraid that by themself they wont be enough. my proplem is the overcast clouds and the rendering i had intended for my structures which should represent some type of very old and dryed lava.

Hey! Welcome to the challenge!
Nice work on the lineart! Is there a background-story to it? Anything happening? Or are you just aiming for a spectacular view? Looking good so far, ill check back later for some colors ;)..

Good luck!

---still thinking about it.
My main problem comes from my desire to put to many things at once in the same piece.
