What in the name of Satan's beard is happening in this render? That black stuff only appears when I put a skylight in...there's not map on that mesh!

Hm. Coplanar faces maybe? check those spots of the ears to see if theres extra polygons shoved in there somewhere. Make sure the verticies are welded too. What are your skylight/light tracer settings?

Hmm...settings? Not sure what you mean. They are just the default settings. I tried deleting the poly's, then creating new ones...then I smoothed it again but it still rendered like that, in the exact same place. I completely confused :D Thanks for the reply...any other takers?

Select an ear and delete all the others polys and objects in scene and render.
If the artifacts persists then post that minimized scene with just the problematic
region to analyze.
It seems duplicate mesht to me interpenetrating one another but I need see
the file.
