Hello all,

the development of my AE plugin Mantra (http://www.minning.de/plog/mantra-the-realtime-dynamic-re-lighting-plugin-for-after-effects/) (CGTalk thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=289077)) is nearing completion and I'm now contemplating the distribution of my software.

Judging by the huge response I got, there seems to be a rather large demand in the market for this plugin. The problem is that I currently don't have the means to publish and distribute the plugin, as I don't intend to make it available for free (at least not the full version). Meaning I'd probably need to start my own little company and deal with all the troubles that encompasses, but as long as I only have this one plugin to sell, it's probably not worth the hassle.

So does anyone know of a company or website that publishes plugins and deals with the distribution/financial aspects? I'd like to hear any suggestions you may have!

Thanks,
Stefan

Shouldn't be too difficult. Basically all you need is someone to take care of the tax business and generating innvoices according to German laws and PayPal, Kagi, blitzbox, ShareIt etc. do it all once properly setup. all that remains then is sum up all your earnings and include them on your income tax declaration the next year. You should also try to talk to peopel like Philip Spöth from Frischluft.com or Peder from Trapcode. Since they already have their systems up and running, they might consider adding your tool to their product range.

And if you could get a Mac version compiled, you'd probably double your sales! I'd buy it.

Thanks for the advice, I'll contact all the publishers and developers mentioned ASAP, surely someone will be interested.

I'l also look into selling it myself, just in case.

Hmm, id be tempted just to do your own company. Tax is easy and just a paypal account which is just a small percentage. Like always though advertising will be the money taker. Then again, if you get it listed on the main plugin lists on the web, you should be right. If anyone wants a plugin, they always have to go there aye! Like the adobe plugin lists etcc...

Like the adobe plugin lists etcc...Sure, that would be my favorite option as well! But I can't expect this entreprise to pay all my bills, so I'll have to do it beside the regular day job... which of course means I won't have all the time and power to invest that I'd like to.
Anyway, I'm leaning towards setting up the distribution channel myself at the moment, I'm just sort of testing the waters to see what other options I have.
