I'm actually working on a robot. This here are it's legs and feet. It should get a kind of backbone partially cladded with shielding plates. I hope getting this fully animatable.

I'm using cinema 4D

thx for watching (and maybe giving c&c)!

I would like to see the concept for the robot. The details in the picture and also in the animation look promising.

wow! great start i love robots and this one is very promising :)
reminds me of the robots in war of the world(with cruise) for some reasone (the shape maybe ?) ..
how are you gonna animate the cables?are you intending on bonning them or using blend shapes?
keep the good work!

What do the green tubes connect to? Looks like they are just hanging.

jojojo
11-15-2005, 09:43 AM
well, the green tubes are done with splines I'll animate with XPresso.
for the moment they're hanging around because I have to do the connections.

thx for the comments!

Very QL modelling, I like that organic type of mechanic modeling (if you know what I mean)
Hope to see updates, & off course animated

Great work!!!

Sweet! I've always loved the "organic looks, but still 100% machine" style, and this robot is definately no exception.
I'm eager to see the arms. :) (Assuming it will have any)

how are you going to move those complex legs? with bones?

He has already shown a animation of his legs moving. I dont know how he did it, but it looks and works well.

Originally when I saw the initial robot, I instantly thought of the old movie "Batteries Not Included". The movie had these saucer shaped robots with legs, and cutsie personalities.

Now however, I believe this is the robot that destroyed their home-world.

Great looking model!

jojojo
10-10-2006, 05:33 PM
thx guys.
well this model is a thing which is slowly growing, by adding details where they come to my mind. must admit i have no entire concept for it, just growing as it comes...
the anim was done with simple FK, in the end it's gonna be ik. anyway i have lots of work with the model.
the hole tubes and and mechanical stuff is animated with cinemas xpresso system. quite powerful for that stuff. btw: does someone know hox to animate the tangent of a spline, to fit with the rotation angle of an other object?

jojojo

jojojo
10-24-2006, 10:15 PM
well, it`s just growing as it comes to my mind, there`s no plan or so and in fact feet have a very different character compared to the newer backbone. doesn't matter, think the entire thing is important!
render is maxwell...

I love the detail and the design of it's parts. But, I don't get where U'r going with it. He has legs like a bird, arms like insect (tentacles), but other than a combat bipedal insect, I dont know what he could do.

I did not see the animated bits, but you should be aware that his legs are far to the side from the center of the gravity, so he would have to lean left and right a lot during the walking cycle.

Good work.

jojojo
11-01-2006, 07:30 PM
well unfortunately I don't know it neither. it's not that important for me designing it from the beginning, as it's just for fun. let's say if it's gonna be able to walk would be cool and pretty sufficient. dunno why I should need some specific purpose for it :-)
hope doing some more work on the arms and maybe adding some details like a bunch of cables or stuff like that, and than going on with textures.
thx for comments!

Your model is looking great. from the time you started to now it has gained so much.

Although, You might what to start thingking about what you want it to like like in the end and maybe try to stick to your idea as best as possible... Seems to me like you keep adding on more and more. When will it end! lol J/K

Looks great, can't wait to see it finished and textured.

Hi,

Love the robot design......looks awesome!! Can I just ask, do you have any good sources for mechanical reference? For the joints and springs and stuff. Am just about to start a project which might have a mechanical element.

Thanks,

is it just me or does this also resemble some kind of futuristic chair? :O

Great work dood :) Are u gonna add some hands on this guy or not? Keep it up :)

jojojo
04-22-2007, 08:23 PM
thx guys!
well, hands somehow are integrated, although not in the classic way of five-fingered hands. its more like an insects hand

... and yes! why not making it a chair? so i could avoid animating it :-)

Very well done. I'm holding my stars at the moment, but it's a 4 or above. I honestly think the robot should be a nice gun smoke black, with red lights.

Looks cool, but I have some doubt about the gravity :)

yenvalmar
04-29-2007, 12:02 AM
it would actually be quite cool to have a rider in the middle of the torso, i dont beleive i have ever seen that exact configuration of mecha although it comes close to shirow masamune's "landmates" from appleseed, the exact scale and having a fully exposed rider as on a motorcycle would be a "new" idea. and we dont see too many of those so its exciting! i say do it! mobile chair! the only downside is animating might be even more complex since youll need a rigged character. but that will also make the animation much cooler imo. the rigging so far looks great though i do wonder about the need for coil springs in this situation you rigged them great.

edit: i guess the power loader suit from the "aliens" movie was close to the same idea of making this a chair, but this design is so much more elegant, it implies a much more futuristic technology and ability to move faster and jump 39 feet in the air, not like a slow industrial robot to me. more like a jet-ski or a motorcycle type of sports recreational mecha. and then they could race or have competitions. well we are getting far ahead now..

pps, if you dont want to put in a rider can i "steal" the idea? i would design my own mecha :) i just think it would be real cool to have a mecha with fully exposed rider like this..

ppps for best results, it should be a hot chick in some skintight outfit, such as:

http://www.clho.net/anime/appleseed/appleseed.jpg

:)

Little test of materials on the wip-model...

@yenvalmar:think it's a cool idea, though i doubt i'd be able to create a decent character for it. that's my problem. anyway it's your idea so go for it!! :-)
