alright i got some nicely modelled
cloth in maya made in polys and i did a alot of
wrinkles and areas of stretchiness

now when the time comes to texture it
i find myself stuck on how to proceed
because regular projections will make
it seem like theres no wrinklage
in the cloth at all...[im looking for that stretched look like on nurbs] anyway i thought
about painting it in but that would be
umm..nasty, to say the least

i tried relaxing the crap out of the uvs
in uniform mode but well that didnt go
anywhere...
is there any other solutions for this problem,
or some handy ps tips ?

hmmm

Perhaps you could paint a small weave pattern, then tile it around the model, as a bump map.

(and a transparency map)

hmm,

texturing modeled cloth is rather tricky indeed...

as a last resort, i try to make a copy of the poly model and flatten out the object by any means necessary (usually by pushing n pulling vertices)...once it is flattened i apply a simple planar map...

then i morph it back to the original shape it came from and voila...

it really depends on what shape your cloth is...

Perhaps you should play around with the lightning in your scene?
